Things.info is a web platform for all man-made objects (and some living things used by humans), their origin, status and relationship with people and other things. The platform will provide users information about production, use and recycling of things. Things.info will bring you the stories of things - who made them, what are they made of, where they were produced.
In addition to things being produced every second we also have a lot of stuff we don’t use any more. These items could actually have value for another person. Reusing things we have reduces the need to produce new ones, as a result we use less water, less energy and other resources. So to help use things around us more effectively we first need to map them – where are they, in what condition, are they for giving away or borrowing.
There are more than 7,000 things (generic things like car, pencil computer etc) around the world. Until now we have mapped more than 1,000. Choose one or more to adopt and be part of creating Things.info web platform. By adoption you make it possible to study existing production chains deeper and give opportunity to discover how many and what kind of things are produced. Adoption means that you donate a certain sum (from 10 to 1,000 USD) for a thing and your name will be posted on the web, next to this thing for a year. It’s yours – you adopted it!
How to make an adoption?
a) Choose a thing which isn’t adopted yet and click on it!
b) Click the “Adopt” button, choose your privacy settings and make the payment via Paypal account or credit card.
c) After payment has been processed you will see your name (depending on privacy settings) on adopted thing and you will get Things.info certificate on your e-mail address.
d) Spread the info, like and share it.
e) Thank you!
It’s also possible to donate to us directly. For example if the thing you like has already been adopted. Support us and donate now here
Yes, we are your team! We’re building Things.info so we all can know more about the products we use and how to manage them when we're done using them! The solution lies in mapping the resources we have, so we know how to better manage them. Starting from production and ending with reuse or recycling. Join the team by adopting a thing. And if you want to contribute with your time and skills, write to us using the contact form. Thank you!
